What does it take?
Life as we know it is different for each one of us, so different, yet the trajectory is basically the same. The dynamics that surround our own “little” worlds dictate our larger pictures and future outlooks. Triggers to become an activist or to stay passive, may or may not be our motivators…knowing how these triggers are set off could make all the difference in the long term of our lives.
Thirty-two years in the oilfield
as an environmental consultant has directed and dictated so much of my life,
who I became as a family man and who I didn’t. At what point do we realize the
importance of our inner being, who we really are and what we really need?
There is not much that is simple
within the Country we are expected to evolve into. It seems that for most
people in Canada, they work most of their lives away - literally, planning and
saving for “retirement”, then on that magical day, if they survived that long
they attempt some sort of life of leisure. Most are in no physical condition to
do much, which I see as sad.
What is it that finally triggers
the need for change? When do we begin to see the light within our paths?
This should come as no surprise
to most people but tomorrow is not guaranteed for any of us. I’m curious as to
why most humans (me included), live each day as though we are invincible and
totally take for granted that tomorrow will be there when they/ we go to bed at
night.
I have done some soul searching
over these past few months and have concluded that, the remaining portion of my
life, for whatever duration that may be, can not be lived as I’d like being
away from home. Let’s call this, semi-retirement. Reflection and self dialogue
can be a tool which we can learn from, for which I’d suggest we learn to
confide in. I have taken a local job (I call it a retirement job) and will be
dissolving my 30-year company over the next while.
A point of reflection - My wife
has an aunt that passed away last week, she was only 13 years older than
myself. God rest her loving soul.
Do we choose to listen to what
is taking place before us or continue to take our lives for granted along with
the time we have here on earth? I’m not saying we are all at a point of
semi-retirement, what I am saying is what does it take for any of us to truly
listen and change!
